Planning Your Own Photo Shoot

With 15 years of pregnancy photo shoots behind me I would love to share my 5 top tips to creating your own beautiful pregnancy photos that you will love and cherish.

1.Wear something fitting.
Stretchy clothing that accentuates your growing curves is a perfect but don’t try squeezing into something you are not comfortable in. Wear something classic and beautiful – a special dress is a must but also go with a more casual look too. Light coloured clothing photographs beautifully however solid darks work well for black and white images. Be timeless

2.Wait until you're big, but not too big.
You want your tummy to be big and beautiful, but you don't want it to be so large that posing and holding different positions for any length of time becomes tiring. Ideally between 25 – 35 weeks works well. Celebrate your new found curves.

3.Plans some good backdrops
When choosing your location, avoid standing in front of a messy living room. Instead, lie mermaid-style on a solid-color sofa or walk bare foot on the beach. Choose a place that you relate to and feel comfortable in.
This image below is one of my favourite backdrops which a made out of twigs and vines to create a nest effect. Yes this is a bit O.T.T but make sure you have it well thought out.

4.Turn off the flash.
Flash photography can wash you out. Maternity photographer Jessica Higueras suggests standing right in front of an open door or window to get great natural light instead. If you're shooting outside avoid midday sun. "The best times to go outside are early in the morning or an hour or two before sunset. Make it mystical and soft and have a play round with some filters afterwads

5. Find a great photographer.
You want someone you feel comfortable with and will have fun around taking your picture. If budget allow book a professional – it is a worth while investment as you will have some gorgeous images to show your precious one in years to come. If your husband fits the bill, ask him to take the pics (and also to haul any extra props or equipment). Or plan a fun photo date with one of your girlfriends.

EGG have been fortunate to have had some brilliant photographers over the past 15 years. From Sara Orme – our first photographer who shot this image below 10 years ago and is timeless.
